Dining Room (Table)

When Pay and I bought the house we were on a fixer upper craze and dreamed of all sorts of handmade furniture in the farmhouse theme. Our house is a cape cod style and making the interior in that style works very well. We went for a neutral grey throughout the living spaces and wood accents all over. For the dining room table we wanted something big enough to sit 6 with a cool weathered look. But before we could build the table I had to get my workshop set up in the basement.

The house when we moved in had carpet throughout which we tore up and exposed the hardwood underneath. Except for the kitchen and dining room. We ended up tearing out the carpet and laying hardwood to match the rest of the house. But that is for another post.

Workshop

I always wanted a woodworking shop that I could build projects in and just have a space I could escape to get things done. I went to an auction just before we bought the house and found a table saw and planer that would be the first pieces of my shop. I also built a 4 x 8 worktable and used existing cabinets left in the house for additional storage.

The Build

This project took several weeks to complete. We took regular lumber and planned it down so that it was smooth and then after assembling the table roughened up the surface with hammers and nails and chain. It was stained with 3 different colors to give it a weathered look and then sealed with a matte poly.
