Restaurant Mobile Booking

Overview

This was a project created for the UX Fundamentals course. This course was sponsored by Gymnasium and recommended to me by peers at UPS. It was a 6 section Course that focused on the user research part of user experience design. In the course we did everything from Creating Personas and scenarios for our “users”. Then creating Wireframes and Prototypes, followed by making sure the content of the website is relatable and good for the business. It also covered best practices and Finally creating a prototype and performing usability tests.

Research

I performed research on several applications that took reservations. I did research on OpenTable, UrbanSpoon, and Yelp. In my opinion they are the top 3 names in restaurant reviews / reservations so it felt like a good place to start. One thing that I wanted to focus on that was hard to put into the design was a very user based design. Meaning that you couldn’t buy your way into the results. I wanted the opposite of Yelp’s business model because I think that as a customer the last thing I would want would be to know that a business can pay to manipulate the results. I wanted a easy to access without requiring much data from the consumer and I wanted to focus on good pictures and good reviews. Something that I think many of the sites were lacking.

Summary

This was an excellent starter project that gave me exposure to the UX process. It also allowed me to explore and create my first prototype with. The course itself was knowledgable and gave me a good perspective on empathizing with the user and making sure that your ideas make not only user sense but business sense as well.
